A "christian psychotherapist" doesn't sound right for me

In the current culture, being a “Christian” is a loaded title. We each have our own personal experiences with “Christians,” good and bad. So you may be wondering why I put that on my website and if I’m a good fit for you, and that’s a really good question. The main reason I disclose my spiritual beliefs is because I want to be honest about the foundation with which I approach therapy. Contrary to what was once believed, it is impossible to be completely unbiased and impartial, especially in therapy when our subject matter is so intimate and personal. All therapists work from a worldview and a spiritual view.

My view is that we, as humans, have been personally and intimately created by God. That we each are his dear children, that He willingly died for so that we could have more, in this life and the next. This is the reason that I can care for my clients as I do, without judgement and hesitation. We were all created with so much love, and each deserve to live a life where we feel loved. Unfortunately, that isn’t the world we live in, but I hope that this space that I create can be one where you feel deeply loved.

I also believe that our ultimate destination as people growing and changing, is to get back to where it all started, like in the garden of Eden, naked and unashamed. I’m not talking physically, though I’m not opposed to that, but I’m talking about being naked and unashamed emotionally and mentally. I hope for a day where we don’t have to hide our bodies, thoughts, personalities, joys, and griefs; that we can be vulnerable, genuine, and authentic without any shame or fear. I believe that is what God desires for us, and as we go on this journey of therapy, I hope we can get closer and closer to that reality. I hope that we can take off all the burdens and restrictions that have been put on us, and that we will all one day be able to see who we were truly created to be and were meant to be, in all its naked glory.
